Farmers in Uganda's Bundibugyo District have started growing barley as one of the area's income generating activities. The crop seeds were distributed to the farmers at the beginning of this year by the area MP, Joseph Kiregheya.
Bughendera Credit and Savings Cooperative Society manager, Ms. Raham Ratya, said about 16 tonnes of barley seeds were distributed to farmers in the county. She assured the farmers that the society would buy the harvested barley from them at 400 Uganda Shillings (US 25 cents) per kg. The farmers have started harvesting the crop for sale to Uganda Breweries for making beer.
