Some Zambian fishermen in Mpongwe are allegedly using explosives to kill fish in the Kafulafuta and Kafue rivers.
Mpongwe District Commissioner, Minniver Tshuma, said the use of explosives to kill fish would affect fish breeding in the two rivers. Mrs. Tshuma said the illegal fishermen had also partially damaged Kasamba Bridge.
“The explosions partially damaged the bridge when the when they threw their explosives into the river near it,” she said. She claimed that the fishermen were buying explosives from miners who were stealing them from mining companies.
