Nampak of South Africa and the Woodstock Institute for Science and Service to Humanity are working with the Ghana Institute of Packaging to develop a system of preserving and packaging fresh plantain, tomatoes and mangoes in a bid to reduce post-harvest losses.
Due to lack of modern methods of preserving food crops in Ghana, many fruits, vegetables and tubers rot after harvest. The system being developed will help the export and packaging industries store and package several perishable agricultural products.
The IOPG has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to establish a School of Packaging to train and certify professionals in the packaging industry.
