Uganda's government will give sh1.2 billion ($720,000) to cotton farmers to procure, treat and distribute cotton seeds for the next season, an official of the Cotton Development Organisation (CDO) has said.
The CDO managing director, Jolly Sabune, said the government was already addressing value addition issue and farmers were getting organised into cooperative organisations.
"We want the price to stabilise at sh600 a kilo so that we could reach production levels of one million bales with the return of peace in the north," Sabune said. She said cotton exports brought in sh49 billion ($30 million) compared to sh34 billion last year due to increased production.
