The government of Nigeria has pledged to supply enough fertilizer for use by farmers in the 2008 farming season.
The Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources, Dr. Sayyadi Abba Ruma, said arrangements have been concluded for the procurement of over 700,000 metric tones of fertilizer in 2008. "Fertilizer would be made available to the farmers by July 2008," he said.
The minister said the ministry has devised a community cooperative tractor service scheme, which when implemented next year would guarantee farmers' access to mechanized implement.
