The Malawi government is inviting bids for the establishment of 12 irrigation schemes as part an African Development Bank-financed initiative dubbed the Smallholder Crop Production and Marketing Project (SCPMP).
Bidding is also open to foreign contractors that can prove that they are able to undertake a project of this nature.
Mwalamlima Mandala, of the SCPMP procurement office, says the contract will be divided into three lots, with two involving the installation of three irrigation schemes and the third the installation of six irrigation schemes.
“[Interested contractors] can bid for any one lot or any combination of the lots, or all lots. In a given lot, bidders must bid for all items and quantities. “However, in the event that the bidder wins more than two lots, the client will only award a maximum of two lots per bidder,” says Mandala.
She says that, before submitting their bids, the interested contractors will be required to attend a site visit and a prebid conference at their own expense. The site visit will be conducted from February 23 to 27, and the prebid conference will be held on March 2.
Mandala says the bids will be valid for 90 days after bid opening and must be accompanied by a bid security raised from a reput- able banking institution worth 2% of the bid sum or the equivalent in a freely convertible currency.
The deadline for the submission of bids is March 10.
