Mozambique expects agricultural production to increase 10 percent in the 2009-2010 season amid the expectation of good rains, Noticias reported October 16, citing Agriculture Minister Soares Nhaca.
The ministry expects an 11 percent gain in cereal production, a 4 percent increase in legumes and an 8 percent expansion in cassava output, the Maputo-based newspaper reported. The increases may result in drastic cuts in the country’s dependence on food imports by 2011, it said.
