The Kingdom of Morocco has granted 5 million dirhams, or 289 million FCFA, to Niger for the purchase of fertilizers ahead of the next agricultural season.
According to the Minister of Agricultural Development, Mr. Mahaman Moussa, the assistance represents the second installment of the biannual financial aid from Morocco.
"This gesture bears testimony to the interest that the Kingdom of Morocco bestows on development and to the intensification of the Nigerien agriculture. It will enable (us) to improve the productivity and competitiveness of agricultural production, an indispensable condition to achieve food self-sufficiency and the improvement of the revenues of rural producers," Moussa said.
Morocco has already financed several projects in the area of agricultural development in Niger, particularly the provision of emergency seeds during the 2001, 2002, 2003 seasons and during 2005 a donation of one tho usand tons of fertilizers.
The countries enjoy excellent relations and have a mixed cooperation commission that meets every two years.
