Malawian poultry companies will soon start exporting fast growing chicks and finished products to Rwanda.
Media reports indicate that the Rwandan government has cleared the private sector to start importing poultry products. They which will be the first consignment of chicks into the country after government slammed a ban on importing chicken and its products in 2005 following the avian flu virus outbreak.
Poultry dealer Stenbock Oleg has said at least 2,000 chicks are to be imported weekly.
The declaration that Malawi is an avian flu free country has attracted the Rwandan government to move forward and do business, said Thoegene Rutagwenda, Rwanda Animal Resource Development Authority Chairman.
